To ensure safety and security within the IIT Madras campus, all members of the campus community and visitors must comply with the following regulations.

Identity Cards
- All employees and students of IIT Madras must carry a valid Institute-issued Identity Card at all times.
- The ID card must be produced upon request by Security Personnel.
- The Project staff, start-ups, Intern students and others are required to carry identity cards issued by their respective organizations.

Temporary Passes
- Contractual workers / Labours
- Domestic servants
- Vendors and temporary visitors
- These passes are time-bound and do not constitute authorization to provide or solicit services beyond the approved purpose.

Daily Visitor Passes
- Daily passes are issued to casual visitors at designated entry gates.
- Passes are valid only for the issuing gate and cannot be used at other campus entry/exit points.
- Visitors must exit the campus before the pass expiry time.

Group Passes
- Group passes are issued to groups of workers employed by contractors or the Institute.
- To ensure proper control of entry and exit, all labourers/workers must strictly use only the single gate mentioned in the group pass. No entry or exit will be permitted through any other gate.

Vehicle Passes

Staff / Faculty
- It should be applied through IITM workflow portal.
- Metal tokens for two-wheelers.
- Self-adhesive red coloured stickers for four-wheelers.
- The Registration Certificate (RC) and Driving License copies must be attached in the portal.

Project staff / Dayscholar / Resident (Students)
- Application should be submitted at the Security Section.
- Necessary documents mentioned in the application forms needs to be submitted to the security section.(Application available in the website)

Bicycle Registration
- All bicycles used within the IIT Madras campus may be registered with the Security Section.
- Due to the large number of similar-brand bicycles used by students and staff, Bicycle registration helps in:
- Identifying cycles in cases of theft or mistaken identity.
- Enhancing student safety and security.

Staff / Faculty
- Gate pass is required for movement of materials out of the campus. Every department is required to submit a specimen signature of authorised persons to sign the gate pass with the security section.
- Materials shall be moved out only after obtaining clearance from the Security Section.
- Prior intimation is required for all loading of materials.

GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES
- The maximum speed limit for all powered vehicles on campus is 20 km/h.
- Persons below 18 years of age / hostel residents are not permitted to operate powered vehicles.
- Consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited inside the campus.
- Poaching, hunting, or fishing within the campus is strictly forbidden.
- Lighting of open fires anywhere on campus is not permitted.
- Possession, use, or trafficking of narcotics or illegal drugs is a punishable offence.
- Use of cell phone while riding / triple riding & towing of other two-wheelers is not permitted.
- Must follow traffic rules & regulations. Pass valid only for the gate mentioned.
- In case of accident, contact the Security Section: 8280 / 9999.
- Surrender the pass after the date of validity.
- Vehicles are not allowed to be parked at the gates overnight.
